A Brief History

Uttara started in 1966 as a project by the Dhaka Improvement Trust (DIT) called the North Satellite Town project. Later, in 1980, it got a new name: the Uttara Residential Model Town Project. This name shows how it combines modern and traditional ideas.

The development of Uttara happened in three parts, each carefully planned by RAJUK. The first part finished in 1992, creating 6,000 residential plots in Sectors 1 through 10.
